Visible CBTs use an exciting
multimedia approach to Information Technology skills training. This approach provides a
creative treatment of the subject matter through a combination of audio narration,
graphics, still frame, full motion video, and animation. Case studies and exercises
provide real-world scenarios to enhance your learning experience.
Training time using CBT is greatly reduced. The training content is compressed and, as a
result, the advanced material can be presented in short periods of time. All training
courses are modular in design, providing the flexibility to meet a variety of training
needs. For example, users can take one lesson at a time, such as the Data Modeling lesson
for defining relationship cardinality, which requires 45 minutes. Or, you can take a
complete course, such as Data Modeling Fundamentals which contains eight lessons and will
require anywhere from eight to twelve hours.
The Visible CBT courses use a problem-solving
approach to teach facts and information classifications, as well as to teach concepts and
principles. This problem-solving approach encourages learning and retention and includes
animated adventures, case studies and unique real-life exercises.
The Visible CBTs are a direct outgrowth of
Visibles education program. Based on the concept of discovery learning a number of
the CBTs have won awards for instructional and multi-media design. Visible Analyst
(Education and University Edition) is embedded on the Data Modeling, Process Modeling and
Object Modeling CASE Study CBTs.

courses, users can find themselves wandering through a museum, playing an Olympic sport,
or learning about the diamond industry while applying client/server and object-oriented
skills and techniques. |

A winner of
two CINDY awards and the SILVER INVISION award for multimedia design, this
exciting series of interactive, computer-based training courses focuses on five major
subject areas: Client/Server Architecture, Data and Process Modeling, Object-Oriented
Analysis and Design, Design, and Project Management.
The following courses are available in Single User,
Multiple Site and Enterprise Site Licenses and are available directly from Visible Systems
Corporation.
Client/Server
Architecture The
introduction to Client/Server Architecture course provides a broad introduction to the
concepts and technologies involved in client/server computing using problem-solving and
discovery learning (e.g. workshops). While solving real-life client/server architecture
problems, the learner will explore and learn about the diamond industry.
Data Modeling
CASE Study This course is the first course in a trilogy that presents the learner with a
real-life case study to model. The other two courses are Process Modeling CASE Study and
Object-Oriented CASE Study. All three courses require the learner to develop models for
the same case study. This allows the learner to see how the same requirements would be
modeled using data and process models versus object models. The learner uses Visible
Systems Corporations Visible Analyst to develop entity-relationship diagrams and
takes place at a peaceful Bed & Breakfast located in an old-fashioned town by the
water.
Data Modeling
Fundamentals This introductory course uses problem-solving and discovery learning to teach
data modeling, entity-relationship diagramming, and normalization. The learner travels to
an extraordinary villa in Italy, tours the house and garden, and learns about data
modeling from the people who live there.
Human Interface
Design
This course uses problem solving and discovery learning to teach character-based and
graphical screen and report design. Set in a museum, the learner is required to design
human interfaces for various systems within the museum.
Object-Oriented
Analysis
This course teaches object modeling concepts, use cases, static modeling, and dynamic
modeling. The course uses the OMT (object modeling technique) notation and is set in a
world-class Olympic-style sporting event where the learner plays the role of a consultant
helping to define object-oriented applications for the games.
Object Modeling CASE
Study The
Object Modeling CASE Study is the second course in a trilogy of courses that presents the
learner with a real-life CASE study to model. The workshop takes place at a peaceful Bed
& Breakfast located in an old-fashioned town by the water. The learner gathers
information while touring the town to model the requirements.
Object-Oriented
Design
This introductory course uses problem solving and discovery learning to teach object
modeling concepts, how to refine and extend an object model, and architecture modeling
concepts. This course is set in a world-class Olympic-style sporting event where the
learner plays the role of a consultant helping to define object-oriented applications for
the games.
Process Design This introductory course uses
problem solving and discovery learning to teach prototypes, design principles and design
methods. In this course the learner joins a young programmer recently engaged by a
maritime shipping company to design a system. Together, they visit an old lighthouse
keeper who was once a great systems designer. He, in turn, guides them through the
mysteries of process design.
Object-Oriented
Paradigm
This introductory course presents a high-level overview of object-oriented concepts and
terminology. Three dimensional graphics and animations are used to guide the learner
through a frequent flyer example.
Program Design
Techniques This introductory course teaches techniques used to design and define the
structure and detailed logic of a computer program. Visible Analyst is used to develop
structure charts. The learner visits a travel agency that specializes in adventure tours
and designs a hypergraphic editor program and an event tickler program.
Project
Management Overview This course provides an introduction to fundamental concepts and
beliefs that form the foundation for the Visible Systems Corporation methodology. The
course uses personal experiences from seasoned managers, case studies, and
self-evaluations to teach the principles of project management.
Process Modeling
Case Study This is the third course in the trilogy that presents the learner with a
real-life case study model. The course uses Visible Analyst to develop context diagrams,
function charts, data flow diagrams, and organization charts. The course is set at a
peaceful Bed & Breakfast located in an old-fashioned town by the water.
Process Modeling
Fundamentals This introductory course uses problem
solving and discovery learning to teach structured and event-driven process modeling. The
course centers on the formation of a jazz band and jazz club. The learner follows a group
of musicians as they renovate an old warehouse into a city jazz center.
Risk Management This course provides an
opportunity to practice the skills of risk management through the simulation of a systems
integration project. As the project manager, the learner is presented with potential risk
scenarios as the game progresses through all phases of the project life cycle.
Project Challenge is an engaging,
multimedia simulation software environment, designed to exercise project management skills
and judgment in a realistic Information Technology environment. Projects are made up of
elements (e.g., the Customer Sponsor, the Project Manager, the Delivery Team) that adapt
their behaviors to each other. Project Challenge uses an adaptive agent-based approach to
model the interaction between these elements and to simulate real-time diagnosis and
problem solving. A player experiences the complex interdependencies and trade-offs of
management decisions that impact a projects schedule, budget, team morale, and
customer satisfaction.
